Everyone has their own unique face, from your features and coloring to the shape of your face. According to the Vision Council of America (VCA), the key to finding the best frame for your face is determined by the shape of your face. The VCA has established there are seven face shapes among the billions of us. They are:
Round
Characteristics
Wide foreheads and rounded chins.
Suggested Frame Selections
Select frames with straight or angular lines. Choose glasses that are wider than deep. Deep colors such as black or tortoise also minimize fullness.
Characteristics
Strong jaw line, broad forehead and wide chin and cheekbones.
Suggested Frame Selections
Frames should make the face look longer, such as one with weight on top. Frames that are slightly curved compliment a square face.
Characteristics
Face is longer than it is wide. Similar to square faces in that chin and cheek are of nearly the same width. Facial length is far greater than the width, however.
Suggested Frame Selections
Wider frames look much better than narrow frames as they break up the length of the face.
Characteristics
A well-balanced face. The top half balances the bottom half.
Suggested Frame Selections
Any style frame looks good on this face shape with the possible exception of extreme geometric designs. Keep the size of the frame in proportion to the face.
Characteristics
A broad forehead and narrow mouth and chin.
Suggested Frame Selections
Frames with a thin rim and vertical lines will help balance the bottom part of the face. Avoid large frames, bold colors and square shapes.
Characteristics
A broad forehead and narrow mouth and chin.
Suggested Frame Selections
Frames with a thin rim and vertical lines will help balance the bottom part of the face. Avoid large frames, bold colors and square shapes.
Characteristics
A small forehead, wide temple area that gradually decreases to a small chin.
Suggested Frame Selections
Frames need to minimize the temple area while extending the forehead and chin. The styles that look the best are shallow ovals, geometrics and rectangles.
