At VisionFirst, we are proud to serve patients in the Louisville Metro area, Central Kentucky, and Southern Indiana. We have expanded our offices over the years and currently have 16 locations for people to choose from throughout the two states. Our 16th location is about to begin seeing patients within the next few days!
Usually we eagerly bring you content about the latest in eye care, spotlights on our newest doctors, and more… but today we wanted to focus on great things happening in the communities we serve. Because the reach of our eye care is far-extending, we want to give our patients some ideas of the best summer events and fun happenings occurring in the communities near and surrounding the communities we are in!
Our team of expert eye doctors is dedicated to providing excellent eye care to the residents of these areas. We know that our patients have busy schedules and when an eye care issue arises, you need it taken care of as quickly as possible. That’s why we aim to be like a neighborhood practice. But it’s not all work and no play. There’s always room for some fun on the calendar especially in the summer!
Louisville Metro Summer Activities
We want to recommend some of our favorite activities going on around the city during the next couple months for you to experience. Our Louisville Metro office locations include: Poplar Level Road, Dixie Highway, Hurstbourne, Middletown, Hillview, and St. Matthews. Here are our top 2 activities going on this summer around Louisville that we encourage you to attend:
Brew at the Zoo & Wine Too 2019
Brew at the Zoo & Wine too 2019 is celebrating the Louisville Zoo’s 50th anniversary on Saturday, August 24 from 5-9 p.m. Tickets for the events range from $40-$100, including a VIP ticket option. The event will have local craft breweries, restaurants, animal experiences and musical entertainment from Kudmani. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Louisville Zoo through education, conservation, preservation and cultivation projects. The address for Brew at the Zoo & Wine Too is 1100 Trevilian Way, Louisville, KY 40213.
This awesome place is just around the corner from our Poplar Level Road office. It’s not far from St. Matthews either.
Jefferson Memorial Forest
Almost all year long we love visiting this park. But during the summer, this landmark offers guided walks, a Forest Summer Camp, and more. It’s so important to appreciate nature. Breathing in the fresh air is good for your health too. Most of the activities you can enjoy here are free to the public, so it’s a great, cost-effective idea for the whole family this summer. The forest is only 15 minutes from our Hillview office and our Dixie Highway office.
Waterfront Wednesdays
Waterfront Wednesday is a free outdoor concert held every month from April until September at the Big Four Lawn at Waterfront Park, next to the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge. The event is always on the last Wednesday of the month, and the next two summer sessions are on July 31 and August 28. Every Waterfront Wednesday starts around 5 p.m. and lasts until 10-10:30 p.m, with live music from local artists and bands. The concert is free to the public and kids are welcome. It is the perfect outdoor summer event that is great for all ages, and who doesn’t love a free event! If you jump on any interstate or expressway in Louisville, it’s an easy shot to get to the waterfront for this awesome experience.

This local favorite is just a few miles away from our new Jeffersonville office.
Georgetown Drive-In Theater
Our last summer event we want to share is a drive-in move theater in Georgetown, Indiana. The theater features weekly showings of two movies during the weekend nights- always showing the most popular movies out. Additionally, there is a special event occurring each weekend to provide an extra dose of fun to each movie showing. Some of the upcoming events include: The Drive-In Goes to the Dogs with the New Albany Animal Shelter and a Live magic show by Colby Clark Magic an hour before showtime. Visit their website for the full breakdown of events at the theater.
This classic experience is only about a half hour away from our Scottsburg and Salem offices. Also here are a few other favorites:
The Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge is a beautiful place to visit in Seymour, Indiana.
The River Run Family Fun Park is perfect for the whole family during the summer in New Albany, Indiana.
There is plenty to do in these awesome communities; many activities not included in this post. Still, we hope this will serve as a guide to fun things to do for the remainder of your summer season. VisionFirst is not only dedicated to providing the best eye care possible to our patients, but enriching your experiences around the communities you work and live your lives. Our team hopes all of our patients have a safe and happy summer season!
