Presbyopia occurs when the lens inside your eye loses its flexibility, making it difficult to focus on near objects. During the early years of life, the lens in the eyes has the ability to focus both near and distant images. As we age, the lens in the eyes loses some of its elasticity, therefore losing its ability to change focus.
The VisionFirst doctors will conduct a comprehensive examination that will include testing for presbyopia. They will conduct a refractive evaluation to determine whether your eyes focus light rays properly. A visual acuity test will determine your ability to see sharply and clearly at all distances.
Presbyopia can be treated with three methods:
- Glasses
- Contacts
- Vision correction surgery (LASIK and CK)
