Our Specialized Services:
Comprehensive Pediatric Eye Exams:
Dr. Silvestros and his team utilize the latest technology to conduct thorough eye exams. With a focus on personalized care, he specializes not only in common pediatric eye issues but also in treating eye movement disorders and inner-eye health conditions. Our goal is to ensure your child’s vision is at its best! Conditions that Dr. Silvestros treats:
- Nystagmus: Nystagmus is a vision condition characterized by involuntary, rhythmic eye movements. These movements can be side-to-side, up and down, or circular. Nystagmus can be present at birth (congenital) or develop later in life. It can be associated with various underlying causes
- Eye Movement Disorder: An eye movement disorder refers to conditions where there are abnormalities or difficulties in controlling eye movement. This can include difficulties with tracking objects, maintaining fixation, or coordinating the movements of both eyes. Disorders in eye movements can be caused by various factors, including neurological issues or problems with the muscles that control eye movement.
- Congenital Cataracts: Congenital cataracts are clouding of the eye’s lens that is present at birth. The lens is normally clear, allowing light to pass through and focus on the retina. When a cataract is present, it interferes with this process, leading to blurred or cloudy vision. Congenital cataracts can be caused by genetic factors, infections during pregnancy, or other developmental issues. Treatment may include surgery if the condition is severe.
- Strabismus: Strabismus, also known as crossed or misaligned eyes, is a condition where the eyes do not properly align with each other. One eye may turn in, out, up, or down independently of the other. This misalignment can result in double vision and may lead to amblyopia if not treated. Strabismus can be present from birth or develop later in life and may be caused by issues with eye muscles or their coordination.
- Amblyopia: Amblyopia, commonly known as lazy eye, is a condition where one eye has significantly reduced vision, often due to an uncorrected refractive error or strabismus. Because the brain favors the use of the stronger eye, the visual cortex does not fully develop in the weaker eye, leading to a persistent reduction in visual acuity. Early detection and treatment, such as glasses, patching, or vision therapy, are crucial to preventing permanent vision loss.
- Myopia: Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a refractive error where close objects can be seen clearly, but distant objects appear blurred. This occurs when the eyeball is too long, or the cornea has too much curvature. Since Myopia tends to progress in childhood, myopia management is essential at an early age. Myopia is a common vision condition and can often be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery.
Early Detection and Treatment:
Early detection of eye problems is paramount for a child’s development. Dr. Silvestros specializes in detecting and treating early to ensure maximum effectiveness. We strive to make learning and daily activities more comfortable and enjoyable for your child.
