Dr. D. Barry Downing is a graduate of Indiana University at the IU School of Optometry. He continues the family tradition in optometry, as his father was in IU’s first optometry class in 1957. Dr. Downing practices comprehensive optometry including the fitting of glasses, all types of contact lenses, disease treatment and the specialty of vision therapy for the treatment of children with vision-related learning difficulties. He is one of three optometrists in the state of Indiana who is board certified by all three available optometric boards which include the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, the American Academy of Optometry and the American Board of Optometry. Dr. Downing is also a member of the American Optometric Association as well as the Indiana Optometric Association. Locally, Dr. Downing is the past president of the Elks, the Literacy Council and a Lion member. Statewide, he is a previous Optometry Society President and State Trustee and Treasurer. Nationally, he is past Director and Treasurer for COVD. Dr. Downing has five children and five grandchildren.
