So far in of our series about our doctors, we have introduced you to Dr. Walker, Dr Keenan, and Dr. Downing. Our doctors are pretty fascinating men and women. We want our patients to get to know our doctors and understand why we think they are the best!
At other practices, we’ve seen where many people don’t know their doctors well at all. This is not our desire. We don’t want you to feel like your doctors are unapproachable. We also want to help reduce the anxiety you may feel when you know you have an appointment with someone in a white coat. So we hope you benefit from these stories of our doctors. Case Study #4 – Dr. Hickey
Seven years ago, VisionFirst received an exceptional Doctor. Over her time with VisionFirst, Dr. Carol Hickey has developed a passion for helping and creating relationships with patients –that’s super important to us as you’ve probably heard us say. Everyday, Dr. Hickey enjoys her job taking care of patients and their eyes along with many other things.
Why Dr. Hickey is Most Qualified To Serve Her Community
Dr. Carol Hickey is qualified to say the least. She received both her undergraduate degree and her Doctor of Optometry degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Hickey then served four years as an Optometrist in the U.S. Navy.
What does she do each day? Dr. Hickey provides comprehensive vision care which includes prescribing glasses and contact lenses, diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases, and pre- and post-operative care for cataract and laser vision correction surgery. She also has an expertise in pediatric eye exams. Can you imagine giving an eye exam to a tiny baby?! That takes special skill.
Dr. Hickey fits all major brands of contact lenses including astigmatism and multifocal correction options, as well as specialty contact lenses. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Indiana Optometric Association, and the Kentucky Optometric Association.
Why Dr. Hickey Loves Her Job
Everyone wants a doctor that loves their job! Dr. Hickey is passionate about not only providing exceptional eye care, but creating relationships with her patients. And Dr. Hickey has a motto: love Jesus, love people, and have fun. She shared with us that it is an exciting time working with VisionFirst. Patients are taking a bigger interest in their own health and wellness. People are understanding more and more that annual eye exams are an important part of their healthcare, and that it’s not just about getting glasses or contact lenses. She likes to hear that.
How Dr. Hickey Uses Her Free Time
Although she stays busy, she has many things she enjoys outside of work. The weekends are, no doubt, meant for family for Dr. Hickey. She claims that most of her time is spent alongside her husband Jerry and her two daughters Kendall and Audrey. The Hickey family has a strong love for sports. Kendall and Audrey both play varsity basketball with Jerry as their coach. Both daughters are involved in a number of other sports and activities too. During the Hickey’s vacation time, you can be sure to find them on the beach. Her favorite vacation spots are spent at Marco Island and Destin. We have to agree with her taste here.
